High Schools and Race Cars
Had a nice day over in Glyndon, Minnesota, in the high school, talking about books, writing and the MOTOR novels. Read some from SATURDAY NIGHT DIRT, and showed a clip of Skyler in action on the race track. The cool thing was that lots of kids from this area of northwestern, MN, had been to Buffalo River Speedway where some of the clip was filmed. One kid came up afterward and said, "Hey, in the pits you were parked only two cars away from my Dad's race car."
Back home in Bemidji, the new tin is on the car, and the design guy is almost ready with the lettering. The car is going to look great, and I wish I could tell you its theme--but I need to keep that under wraps for now. We want it to be a surprise, and I'll be sure to post the first pictures of it here.
My publisher is cranked up with marketing and advertising for SND, and I've been fielding calls and emails about bringing the race car to schools. Team Weaver will be on the road with car in April, but I'm already booked full! A whole bunch of schools in central MN will be seeing the car and meeting Skyler. This means he'll have to miss some classes, but he didn't seem all that sad about it. . . . However, I told him to bring his homework along, and we'll make sure it gets done. School comes first (racing a close second).
A new article on Skyler and Team Weaver just came out in the big ALL THE DIRT newsletter. Basically it was about the whole concept of a racing team centered around books and reading. No doubt about it, no one has ever done this before. I'm getting lots of requests for interviews about our "program", and this spring is going to be crazy--in a good way. I'll be really happy to get through all the promo stuff, and back to dirt track racing this summer.
